WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR LEGACY TO BE?

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Texas Legacy begin:
Texas Legacy was established in the Spring of 2015 as an alternative to the high price National programs that were being offered in the area.

Who runs Texas Legacy:

Texas Legacy was founded by Jason Smith along with Chuck Torres, Matt Wagner, and Pat Fullerton.

Who are your coaches:

Our coaches include former D1, D2, D3, and MCLA players who are also current HS and Youth coaches in the Houston area.  This currently includes Jason Smith, Sebastian Domenech, and Mark Williams.  We also have several current NCAA players that coach with us each season.

What events do you participate in:

Events change each season but our primary focus is on Texas venues including Dallas, Austin, and Houston.  We have also played in Colorado, Delaware, Louisiana, Michigan, and Virginia.

Why these locations:

The competitive level of Lacrosse in Texas continues to improve.  By playing at events closer to home we are supporting Lacrosse in Texas and also minimizing expenses to families.  We do also participate in Recruiting events with our High School teams and Destination events with our Youth teams.

More FAQs

What makes Legacy different:
We are a "local" program that focuses on the player first.  Any player that is selected for a Legacy team will see considerable field time during events.  While we do play to win, we do not minimize player rotation to secure a victory.  This creates a development opportunity for all players.

What is your "Philosophy":
No player takes the field intending to do poorly.  This means there is no need to yell or curse at players on the field.  We use practice, sideline discussions, and one-on-one conversations to coach your player.
Parents need to parent while coaches coach.  Sideline enthusiasm is great but should be inspiring and not counter productive.

What about recruiting:
NCAA rules do not permit player/coach communication until after the Sophomore year.  We focus on player development, competitive tournaments, and identification of appropriate showcase and camp opportunities.  As a player reaches High School, we develop a recruiting profile with them and help the player/family create a target list.  Our coaching staff currently communicates with over 200 College programs.
We believe that a player is better off playing in competitive local events and complimenting that with select training or camp opportunities.  This helps to minimize the expense to the family and allows for more of the right opportunities.

Do your players play in College:
Our first graduating class was in 2019.  We have placed over 80 players to the NCAA, NAIA, and MCLA over the past 5 years.
